The One Who Pays, Plays the Whistle
One day, Nasreddin Hodja was on his way to the market when a group of children gathered around him. Each of them asked him to buy a whistle, but none of them gave him any money.
Hodja smiled and said:
— All right, no problem.
However, only one child took out some money and said:
— Can you buy me a whistle with this money?
In the evening, when Nasreddin Hodja returned from the market, the children quickly surrounded him and asked for their whistles.
Nasreddin Hodja took a whistle out of his pocket and handed it to the child who had given him money.
The others started shouting:
— Where are our whistles?
Nasreddin Hodja replied shortly and wisely:
— The one who pays, plays the whistle.
